BAD INTERNET BILLS TOOLKIT
URGENT: Congress wants to hand Trump even more power for censorship and surveillance by passing dangerous internet bills that weaken end-to-end encryption, require online ID checks and repeal Section 230—which protects free speech online! Fight for the Future, a digital rights organization known for organizing some of the biggest online protests in history, is launching a campaign to get loud about our opposition to these bills. We are calling on creators and organizations to speak up in solidarity with LGBTQ, immigrant and reproductive justice advocates. The only way to stop this threat to mass censorship and defend a free internet in the United States is to create an uproar!
If you are a creator or org that cares about or makes content about issues impacting the LGBTQ community and reproductive justice in particular, these bills impact you and your audience.
We have built a tool where you and your online communities can take action against each of these bills in one click: badinternetbills.com/
We are asking creators to post/share/amplify our opposition to these bills and raise their concerns about legislation that would enable Trump to crush public and private dissenters through more surveillance and censorship of content about sex education, LGBTQ resources, and reproductive healthcare.
Here’s what you can do:
Make a video or a post talking about why you think people should take action.
Use your own voice. (If you don’t usually speak directly to the camera, no big deal. You’ve got your own style!)
Relating your own audience and experience to these bills is the easiest and best way to go about this. You don’t need to know all of the legalese, your audience cares for the reasons *you* do. You can watch some videos here and here if that is helpful.
Circulate this toolkit to other creators and organizations you know. Mutuals, discord servers, all are great avenues to get more people on board.
Put badinternetbills.com in your link in bio and direct your audience to sign it. This link has an overview of why all of these bills are a bad idea if you need ideas for posts.

Sample Talking Points/Scripts:
As an online creator, there are so many concerning bills in Congress that affect my livelihood and my ability to make content. Bills like KOSA and age verification laws will enable censorship of content that conservative politicians disagree with. We’ve seen what they can do with book bans, we don’t want the same thing to happen on the internet! I think it’s important to protect freedom of speech and expression and LGBTQ resources on the Internet. Please take action at badinternetbills.com.
Online ID Checks are only the tip of the iceberg-repealing Section 230, and many many other bills that are on the move, could affect our freedom to use social media and talk about abortion rights, sex education, and LGBTQ resources. Abortion rights and LGTBQ rights, particularly those of trans people, are being heavily criminalized across the country. We need to protect abortion seekers and life-saving resources. You can take action to protect free expression on the internet at badinternetbills.com.
